Saudi Arabia's signage industry uses a wide range of materials depending on the sign type, installation environment, and client requirements. This guide covers the most common signboard materials available in the Kingdom and the best application for each.
1. Acrylic Sheet — For Illuminated Signs
Acrylic is the primary material for the face panels of illuminated channel letters and light boxes. Available in clear, white, colored, mirror, and fluorescent options. Highly UV-resistant and maintains clarity outdoors for decades.
Best for: Channel letter faces, light box fronts, backlit sign panels.
Common thicknesses: 3mm (standard), 5mm (large letters), 8mm+ (display fixtures).
2. PVC Foam Board — For Printed Signage
PVC foam board (Forex) is the standard substrate for UV flatbed printing. Lightweight, rigid, and waterproof with a smooth matte-white surface. Cannot be illuminated.
Best for: UV printing substrates, exhibition panels, retail display boards, menu boards.
3. LED Modules & Strips — For Sign Illumination
LED modules go inside channel letters to illuminate them from within. LED strips provide linear illumination for light boxes and backlit panels. Use IP67-rated products for outdoor Saudi signage.
4. Aluminum Trim Cap — Channel Letter Finishing
Trim cap is the flexible strip that seals and finishes the edge (return) of acrylic channel letters. Available in multiple colors to match any sign design.
5. Zincor & Aluminium Sheets — Structural Frames
Zincor (galvanized steel) and aluminium sheets form the structural back panels and side frames of large-format signs, fascia boards, and illuminated cabinets. Rust-resistant and easy to fabricate.
6. Stainless Steel — Premium Signage Cladding
Mirror-finish stainless steel in gold and silver is used for luxury brand signage, high-end channel letter returns, and decorative shop fascia cladding.
7. Polycarbonate (Lexan) — Impact-Resistant Glazing
Polycarbonate is used where high impact resistance is required — protective glazing, curved sign faces, and outdoor applications requiring extreme durability.
